Get the most from your Mixergy

Simple ways to heat only what you need and keep your bills down.

Your Mixergy tank can heat the amount of water your household needs without heating the whole tank every time. Getting the most from it starts with a heating plan that fits your routine, then noticing how much hot water you actually use.

You can use the buttons on the tank without the app. If you use the app, it gives you more control over scheduling and helps you understand your energy use. You don’t need to change everything at once.

Start with the setup you’ve been given

Your installer normally selects the heat source. This setting tells the tank which equipment will heat its water. Keep it as installed unless your installer advises a change.

If someone else manages your tank, ask them before changing its setup. Tenants should check with their landlord or housing provider before changing managed controls.

Choose a heating plan that fits your routine

Once the installation is set up, the main choice is how your hot water is planned.

There are two ways to plan your heating: let the tank plan it automatically, or set your own schedule.

  • Mixergy Flex is the automatic option. It learns when your household uses hot water and plans heating around that routine and your energy tariff. Standard balances savings with having enough hot water available. Economy prepares a smaller amount, so it is better suited to lower hot-water use.

Allow up to two weeks for Flex to learn. Use hot water normally during that time and request a Boost if you need extra.

  • A manual schedule lets you choose which days and times the tank heats, and how much hot water it prepares. Flex and manual scheduling are alternatives: a manual schedule is not followed while Flex is enabled.

To see which you are using, open the Mixergy app, select your tank and open the menu at the top right. Select Mixergy Flex. Standard or Economy means automatic heating is active; Off means you have opted for a manual schedule (you can change this at any point).

See Set schedules and smart control for the setup instructions, or Recommended settings for most homes for help choosing.

Give the app the right energy prices

Your tariff is the price plan you pay for the energy that heats your water. Correct prices help the app estimate heating costs and, where supported, let automatic controls consider cheaper periods.

Use a recent bill or your supplier account rather than guessing. Follow Set your energy tariff to enter the details, and review them when your prices or plan change.

Get to know how much hot water you need

With your heating plan in place, watch what happens during a normal day. Find the Mixergy Gauge, the slim black panel with lights and buttons on the tank. Its red lights show how much hot water is ready.

Look at the level before your usual showers or baths, then again afterwards. Each red light represents about one tenth of the tank’s usable hot-water capacity. Five red lights mean about half is ready, which can be exactly what you requested and enough for your needs. You do not need ten red lights every time.

There is no fixed number of showers per light. How long the water lasts depends on your tank size and how you use it.

Notice the pattern over several similar days before making changes.

  • If you use a manual schedule and regularly have more left over than you need, try a small reduction in the requested amount. If you often run short, try a small increase. See Set schedules and smart control for how to make the change.
  • If you use Mixergy Flex, check which option is selected. If Economy leaves you short, try Standard. If you still regularly need extra hot water after the learning period, ask Mixergy Support for help.

Use Boost for an occasional extra need

Guests or a change of plans can mean you need more hot water than usual. A Boost tells the tank to heat extra water.

On the gauge, press the Boost Up button, marked with an up arrow. Green level lights show the additional amount requested; they turn red when that water is ready. Green lights can mean a request is waiting as well as actively heating.

Request only the extra amount you expect to need and allow time for it to heat. If you prefer to use the app, Set hot water levels and use Boost explains where to find Boost and how to choose the amount.

If you need Boost at the same time most days, review your heating schedule rather than treating it as an occasional extra (if you are using Mixergy Flex, it will adjust the schedule for you automatically).

Use the information available to you

To see more detail, open the Mixergy app and select your tank. Look for Graphs or Insights. These show information about hot water use and, where available, estimated heating costs. The information available depends on your setup. See Track your hot water use for help reading it.

Change one everyday setting at a time, then compare several similar days. This makes it easier to tell whether the change helped.

If you have solar panels

If you have solar panels, a compatible installation can use electricity your home isn’t using to heat water. Keep the solar settings chosen during installation. See Is solar PV working with your tank? to check whether it is working.

When you are going away

Holiday mode pauses your normal heating schedule during your absence. To use it:

  1. Open the Mixergy app and select your tank.
  2. Open the main menu and choose Schedule.
  3. Tap the aeroplane icon at the top of the screen.
  4. Enter your departure and return dates, then confirm them.

Normal scheduled heating resumes when the holiday period ends. If you do not have app access, ask whoever manages your tank how to pause normal heating while keeping its safety functions available.

Leave the tank switched on at the mains so its controls and automatic safety functions can operate. Keep solar wiring and installer settings as installed.

A quick review when your routine changes

If your routine changes, compare the hot water level before and after your usual use over a few days. Then adjust your manual schedule or review your Mixergy Flex option if needed.

Update the tariff information when your supplier changes your prices. If the app marks the tank offline, its information can be out of date; reconnect the tank before relying on it.

Common questions

Will using the app guarantee a lower bill?

No. Costs depend on your energy prices and heating setup, as well as how much hot water you use. The app helps you understand and manage water heating.

Do I have to use Mixergy Flex?

No. You can use a manual schedule instead. You can also use the gauge for everyday hot-water checks and Boosts.

How long does Flex take to learn my routine?

It can take up to two weeks. Use hot water normally and request a Boost if you need extra during that time.

Should I heat to 100% every day?

For many homes, a smaller amount meets everyday needs. Heat-pump systems can be set up differently, so follow your installer’s advice. The tank also runs a separate cleansing cycle, which periodically heats it fully to help control bacteria in stored water. Keep that safety function enabled.

What if I rent?

Use the controls provided to you. Ask your landlord or housing provider before changing managed settings, the heat source or account ownership.
