Track your hot water use
See when your household uses hot water and how much energy your tank uses.
The Mixergy app can help you see when your household uses hot water and how much energy the tank uses. Compare several similar days before changing your routine.
You don’t need the app to get hot water. On the tank’s gauge, the slim black panel with lights and buttons, red lights show how much hot water is ready. The up arrow requests more.
1. Find the information in the app
Open the Mixergy app, sign in and select the tank you want to view.
Open Graphs using the tab on the tank screen or the main menu. Select Hot Water Level to see how the amount ready to use changes during the day. Use Pick Date, where shown, to compare a previous day.
Open Insights for summaries of energy use and estimated heating costs. The information available depends on your tank and installation.
If you can’t find either section, don’t assume there is a tank fault. Ask Mixergy what information is available for your setup. If Insights says “feature disabled”, follow Insights showing ‘feature disabled’.
2. Understand what you’re looking at
- Hot Water Level: the percentage of the tank’s usable hot water capacity ready to use. A reading of 50% means about half of the tank’s capacity is ready. That can be the whole amount you requested and enough for your needs. It is not a temperature reading.
- Power: the rate at which the tank is using electricity at that moment, shown in kW, or kilowatts. This is different from total energy used over a day.
- Energy use: usually shown in kWh, or kilowatt-hours. This is the energy unit used on your bill.
- Estimated cost: a calculation using the available energy information and the tariff entered in the app. It is not your whole household bill.
- PV Power: solar electricity information, where the installation supports it. Missing solar information does not prove that solar heating has failed.
Insights may also show hot water use in litres or summaries across different periods. Don’t expect every setup to show every figure.
3. Look for patterns before making changes
Compare the graph with what happened at home. A drop around shower time can show hot water being used. A rise can show heating. The level can also fall as stored water gradually cools, so a drop does not always mean someone used it.
Notice how much remains after your usual busy period. Compare similar days, rather than a normal weekday with a day when you had guests.
- You often have more left than you need: with a manual schedule, try a small reduction in the requested amount if your installer’s advice allows it. Heat-pump systems can need a different setup, so check before reducing their heating amount.
- You regularly need Boost at the same time: if you use manual schedules, consider a small increase for that period. If you use automatic Mixergy Flex control, review the selected option rather than changing a manual schedule.
See Recommended settings for most homes and Set schedules and smart control before changing the heating plan. Change one thing at a time, then compare several similar days.
A graph can help you describe a problem, but it cannot diagnose a fault by itself.
If information is missing or out of date
Check the small Wi-Fi symbol near the top of the gauge:
- White: the tank is offline. Its app readings can be out of date while it is disconnected. If you have recently changed broadband or router, follow Reconnect your tank after changing broadband or router. Otherwise, ask your installer or Mixergy Support for help restoring the connection.
- Blue: the tank is online. Close and reopen the app, then check whether new information appears.
If information is still missing, ask Mixergy whether your setup provides it. Some solar equipment made by another manufacturer does not report data in the same way.
Homeowners can contact Mixergy’s Homeowners & Residents team on 01865 595 875, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If someone else manages your tank, ask them for help first.
Share a screenshot and the date and time of the missing information. Don’t send passwords.

Common questions
Does a higher percentage mean hotter water?
No. It means a greater amount of usable hot water is ready.
Why doesn’t the estimated cost match my bill?
The app estimates water-heating costs. Your bill includes other household energy use and may include standing charges. Check the tariff using Set your energy tariff.
Can a graph prove the tank is faulty?
Not by itself. It can show a pattern that helps support or your installer investigate.
Why did the hot-water level suddenly drop?
Using hot water lets cold water enter the tank to replace it. This can cause a noticeable drop. The water also cools gradually between uses. Compare the graph with what happened at home before treating a change as a problem.
Why is solar information missing?
Your solar setup may not supply this data to the app. Ask your installer whether it supports PV Power information; missing data alone does not show a fault.
