Set your energy tariff

Add your energy prices so the app can estimate costs and plan cheaper heating.

Your energy tariff tells you what your supplier charges for energy. Entering those prices in the Mixergy app helps it estimate the cost of heating your water. If you use automatic Mixergy Flex heating, the tank can also consider cheaper periods when planning when to heat.

Entering a tariff in the app does not change your supplier or the energy plan you pay for.

Before you start

Have a recent bill or your supplier’s account open. Find the unit price, usually shown in pence per kWh. A kWh, or kilowatt-hour, is a unit of energy.

Use the price per unit of energy, not the daily standing charge or total bill.

If electricity is cheaper at certain times, find the price and exact start and end time for each period.

If someone else manages the energy account, ask them for the details and permission to change the setting.

1. Find the tariff setting

Open the Mixergy app and select your tank if you have more than one.

Open Insights, using the tab on the tank screen or the main menu, then select Set tariff. Insights is the section that shows energy use and estimated costs.

Another route in some app versions is the main menu at the top left, then Automatic Schedule Control. If the labels differ, use the Insights route first.

If neither route is visible, don’t change unrelated settings. Contact Mixergy using the details below and tell them what you can see.

2. Choose the energy that heats your water

  • Electricity: select the electricity option and use the electricity prices on your bill.
  • A gas or oil boiler: choose the relevant fuel. The app may also ask for tank volume and boiler efficiency. Tank volume is its capacity in litres; efficiency describes how much of the boiler’s fuel becomes useful heat.

If you don’t know the heat source or boiler details, check your installation paperwork or ask your installer. Don’t guess.

3. Choose your tariff or enter it manually

The app includes a list of commonly used tariffs. If yours is listed, select the matching tariff and follow the prompts. Check that the details match your current energy plan.

If your tariff isn’t listed, enter your prices and any cheaper periods manually using the instructions below.

  • One electricity price all day: enter that rate in the electricity price field. With no cheaper period to add, the same rate applies throughout the day.
  • Different electricity prices at different times: enter your normal rate under Peak Electricity Price. Add each cheaper period under Off Peak Periods, with its price and start and end times. Use the times your supplier gives you.
  • A supported smart tariff shown in the app: select the matching tariff and follow the prompts. A smart tariff can have prices that vary over time.
  • Gas or oil: enter the information requested for that fuel. If your supplier’s units don’t match the app’s fields, ask for help rather than guessing a conversion.

4. Check and save

Before saving, compare each rate and time with your supplier’s information. Check the field’s units: if it asks for pence per kWh, a rate of 24p is entered as 24, not 0.24. This is an example, not a suggested price.

Save the changes, then reopen Set tariff to check they have been retained.

Review it whenever your supplier changes the prices or you move to another plan.

What changes after saving?

Insights can use the tariff to estimate water-heating costs. Mixergy Flex may also take cheaper periods into account when planning heating.

The figures are estimates for water heating, not your whole energy bill. Your bill also includes other energy use and may include standing charges.

Need help?

If the tariff option is missing or you can’t enter the details your supplier gives you, ask Mixergy for help.

Homeowners can contact the Homeowners & Residents team on 01865 595 875, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If a landlord or housing provider manages your settings, contact them first.

Describe the tariff and the field you’re unsure about. Don’t send account passwords.

Common questions

Do I need cheaper overnight electricity?

No. Select your tariff if it appears in the list. If you enter it manually and pay the same unit price all day, enter that price without adding a cheaper period.

Where do I find the price?

Use a recent bill or supplier account. Look for the unit rate, not the standing charge or total payment.

What if my tariff isn’t listed?

Use a manual entry option if available. If the app cannot represent your plan, contact Mixergy rather than choosing a different tariff.

What if I don’t know my boiler efficiency?

Check the boiler or installation paperwork, or ask your installer, landlord or housing provider.

Will entering a tariff guarantee lower bills?

No. It improves the information available to the system, but your bill also depends on water use, your heating setup and supplier charges.
