Download energy saving guides to share with residents
Printable guides that help residents use only the hot water they need.
Use this page to choose an energy saving guide for a resident. The advice should help them avoid heating more water than they need while still having enough for everyday use.
Savings vary by household, energy tariff, how the water is heated and how much hot water is used. The guides focus on practical actions and do not promise a fixed bill reduction.
Every resident can use the gauge. Only share app, tariff or solar instructions when those features are available to them.
Choose a guide
Save energy using the gauge
For residents who use the gauge rather than the app. The gauge is the panel with lights and up/down buttons on the tank. The guide explains red lights and how to request a small Boost. A Boost asks for more hot water; it is not instant heating.

Use schedules and Mixergy Flex
For residents who manage their app settings. Mixergy Flex is automatic scheduling that learns the household’s hot-water routine. The guide should explain how this differs from a manual schedule, and introduce Standard and Economy before describing their settings.

Make use of cheaper energy periods
For residents who control their energy account and have a tariff with different prices at different times. It explains how correct tariff information helps the tank make better heating decisions.

Make use of spare solar energy
For homes with a compatible solar setup. It explains how household electricity is used first and how spare solar electricity can then heat water.

What should the guides say?
- Look at the gauge’s red lights or the app’s hot water percentage before requesting more. Fewer than ten red lights can still be enough for the household.
- Start with a small Boost and add more only if needed.
- Use a schedule that matches the household’s normal routine.
- Keep tariff information up to date where the resident controls it.
- Leave the tank switched on so schedules and safety features can operate.
- Do not change the Heat Source setting, which tells the app how the water is heated, or any installer settings without advice.
How should housing teams use them?
Give the relevant sheet during handover, after a support call or when a resident says the tank costs too much to run. Use it alongside a short demonstration, not as a substitute for understanding the resident’s situation.
Start by asking whether they usually have enough hot water. If water is regularly left over, discuss a small reduction through Set hot water levels and use Boost or Set schedules and smart control. If they run short, help them review their heating plan before suggesting lower levels. Heating to 100% is not automatically wrong, and an external heat pump can warm the whole tank as part of normal operation.
Do not tell a resident to use an off-peak tariff, solar setting or app feature they do not have.
Accessible and translated versions
Offer Easy Read or large print where approved files are available. An accessible digital version should work with a screen reader. Use the resident’s preferred language when a reviewed translation is available.
Keep safety instructions, control names and screenshots consistent across every version. Professionally check translated safety content before publication.
IMPORTANT
The aim is to avoid unnecessary heating while still providing enough hot water. Residents should not reduce water safety settings or make changes that leave the household without the hot water it needs.

Common questions
Can we tell residents how much they will save?
No fixed figure applies to every home. Explain the actions that can reduce unnecessary energy use and avoid promising a particular saving.
Which sheet should everyone receive?
Start with the gauge sheet if the resident does not use the app. Add other sheets only when they match the installed equipment and the settings the resident can manage.
Can we add local tariff advice?
Only add current, verified information and make clear who controls the energy account. Avoid recommending one commercial tariff as suitable for everyone.
What if a resident regularly runs out of hot water?
Review the schedule and normal hot-water use before suggesting a lower setting. Saving energy should not leave the household without enough hot water.
What if the resident does not use the app?
Start with the gauge guide and show them the red lights and up arrow on their tank. Do not give app-only instructions. The housing team can manage settings that the resident cannot access.
