What is Grid Assistance?
Grid Assistance helps support renewables and balance the electricity grid.
Enabling Grid Assistance means:
-
Your hot water tank may heat at times that support the UK grid.
-
This helps integrate more solar and wind power.
-
All data shared is anonymised.
-
You can turn this off anytime.
Grid Assistance is required for the Automatic Schedule Control. This feature is designed to optimise your schedule based on your hot water usage and tariff.
How Grid Assistance Works
- Control of your tank: By enabling Grid Assistance, you consent to Mixergy and our partner, Centrica Business Solutions, occasionally controlling when your tank heats water.
- Why this matters: This helps the National Grid balance electricity supply and demand, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting low-carbon energy like solar and wind.
- Your data:
- Your tank sends anonymised data (e.g., energy use, availability).
- Centrica may share aggregated, anonymised data with National Grid.
- You cannot be identified from this data.
- System checks: Sometimes, we run software tests to make sure the service works correctly.
- Opting out: You can disable Grid Assistance at any time. If you do, anonymised data already collected may still be used to improve Mixergy and Centrica software.
- Privacy: For full details, see our Privacy Notice.
