Maintain your tank
The professional checks your tank needs and simple checks you can do yourself.
Regular maintenance helps keep your Mixergy tank safe and working properly. Arrange the professional checks required for your product and carry out simple visible checks between visits.
Do not operate safety valves, remove covers or work on the wiring or pipework yourself. If you rent, report concerns to your landlord or housing provider.
What can you check yourself?
You do not need technical knowledge. Every few weeks, look around the tank without touching valves or electrical parts.
Check for:
- Water on the floor or around visible pipework.
- Water passing through the tundish: the small fitting with a visible gap in the pipework near the tank. It should normally be dry.
- Water marks, corrosion or visible damage.
- Unusual electrical noises or a burning smell.
- A loose or damaged controller (the control box on the tank) or gauge (the panel with lights and up/down buttons).
- Stored items blocking access to the tank.
If you cannot identify a part, ask the installer or housing provider to show you. You only need to look from a safe position; do not move equipment or remove a cover.
What should you do if you find a leak or discharge?
Do not tighten fittings, block the tundish or operate a nearby valve.
If you rent, report it to the landlord or housing provider. If you own the home, contact a suitably qualified installer. Tell them where the water is coming from and whether it is dripping or flowing continuously.
Do not touch wet electrical equipment. If there is smoke, fire or an immediate danger, leave the area and call the emergency services.
Arrange professional maintenance
Arrange an annual service with a professional qualified to work on your type of hot-water system and familiar with Mixergy. For an unvented tank (a pressurised system supplied from the mains), use someone qualified for unvented-cylinder work.
Ask them to complete the service record in the installation and servicing manual. Keep it with the warranty registration and property records.
The newer warranty requires an annual service to be documented. An eligible Care Plan can provide an alternative warranty-evidence route under the older terms, but it does not remove all safety checks. See What your warranty covers and Manage your Mixergy Care Plan for the distinction.
What will the professional check?
These are professional checks, so you do not need to identify or operate each part yourself. The visit can include:
- The temperature-and-pressure relief valve.
- Pressure-reducing and pressure-relief valves.
- The expansion arrangements.
- The tundish and discharge pipework.
- Electrical controls and connections.
- The tank’s operation and performance.
These parts protect the hot-water system and must be tested by a qualified person.
SAFETY
Do not turn the red, blue or black safety-valve knobs yourself. Hot water can discharge, and the valve may not seal again correctly.
When should you get urgent help?
Act promptly if you notice:
- A significant leak.
- Water flowing continuously through the tundish.
- Smoke or a burning smell.
- Water that is dangerously hot.
- Visible damage to electrical parts.
- Unusual electrical noises.
Use the landlord or housing provider’s urgent repair route if you rent. Homeowners should contact a competent installer. Do not keep using equipment that appears unsafe.
Where should maintenance records be kept?
Keep them with the installation manual, warranty registration confirmation and property records. A landlord or housing provider may hold these for a rented home.

Common questions
Can I service the tank myself?
No. You can complete the visible checks above, but a qualified professional must test safety valves and service the system.
How often should the tank be serviced?
Arrange servicing annually and follow your product manual. The warranty-evidence route differs between older and newer terms, but remote monitoring does not replace all physical safety checks.
Does a Care Plan mean no physical checks are needed?
No. The Care Plan terms recommend annual professional safety-valve checks. Continue the safe visible checks above and follow your product’s servicing instructions.
Should I switch off a leaking tank?
Do not touch wet electrical equipment. Follow urgent advice from the landlord, housing provider or installer, who can tell you how to make the system safe.
Can I test the tundish or safety valves?
You can look for water passing through the tundish, but do not operate the valves. Leave testing to a qualified professional.
