About your Mixergy tank

How your Mixergy tank works and what makes it different.

A Mixergy tank supplies hot water for taps and baths, and showers that use the home’s hot-water supply. It stores water or heat in advance, so requesting more does not give instant hot water.

Sensors measure how much usable hot water is ready. This helps the tank prepare what the household needs without heating more water than necessary.

You can check and request hot water using the gauge. The optional Mixergy app helps you get more from the tank with remote control, schedules, tariff settings and information about your use.

How does a Mixergy tank work?

Many Mixergy cylinders can heat a useful amount at the top first, leaving cooler water below until more is needed. This depends on the model and heating equipment: an external heat pump normally warms the whole tank. Cube X stores heat for fresh tap water rather than storing the tap water itself.

Sensors measure temperatures at different heights so the gauge and app can estimate how much usable hot water is ready. The level is an amount of available hot water, not a water temperature.

The exact way the water heats depends on the Mixergy product and the heat source installed in your home.

Use the gauge

The gauge is the slim black panel with lights and buttons on the tank.

  • Red lights show how much hot water is ready.
  • Green lights show extra hot water requested, which is waiting to heat or heating. They turn red as that water becomes ready.
  • Press the up arrow to request more hot water. The app calls this Boost.
  • Press the down arrow to reduce the amount requested.
  • The Wi-Fi symbol turns blue when the tank is connected to the internet.

Fewer than ten red lights can be the amount you requested and enough for your needs. Start with a small increase if you need more; allow heating time before deciding whether to add another Boost.

Use the app

You do not need the app to get hot water. The gauge provides the essential everyday controls.

Open the Mixergy app, sign in and select your tank. Its Controls or Hot Water screen shows the level as a percentage. Mixergy Flex is the automatic scheduling option; it learns the household’s routine. Manual schedules let you choose heating periods yourself. See Set hot water levels and use Boost for the main controls, or Set schedules and smart control for heating times.

The tank must be online for live information and remote commands.

What makes the tank smart?

  • It measures how much usable hot water is ready.
  • Many setups can prepare a useful amount before the whole tank heats. How this works depends on the installed heat source.
  • Mixergy Flex can learn the household routine and create a schedule.
  • Tariff information can help it make better use of cheaper periods.
  • Compatible solar equipment can use spare solar electricity.
  • Boost prepares extra hot water when it is needed.

The tank can reduce unnecessary heating, but savings depend on the home, installation, tariff, heat source and hot water use.

Which Mixergy product do you have?

Mixergy X

A smart hot-water cylinder that can work with electricity, a boiler, compatible solar equipment or an external heat pump.

Solar X

A smart cylinder with built-in solar-diverter controls. A diverter uses electricity that the solar panels generate and the home is not using elsewhere to heat water.

iHP X

A hot-water tank with its own air-source heat pump built in. The heat pump transfers warmth in the air into the water. See Mixergy iHP X FAQ for how it behaves.

Cube X

A thermal store keeps heat in stored heating water, then transfers that heat to fresh mains water when a hot tap opens. The two water paths do not mix. See Mixergy Cube X FAQ for more detail.

Look for the model name on the product label near the control box at the front of the tank, or in the installer’s handover documents. Ask the installer or housing provider if the label cannot be read safely.

Why is the hot-water level changing slowly?

The heating speed depends on the heat source. A heat pump normally heats more gradually than a boiler or immersion heater.

Common questions

Does the tank control my room heating?

Usually not. Room heating normally has separate controls. Ask the installer or housing provider if your system is arranged differently.

Do I need the app?

No. Use the gauge to check the hot-water level and request more.

Should I switch the tank off after a shower?

No. Leave it switched on so schedules, frost protection and the cleansing cycle can work.

Why does the tank sometimes heat to 100%?

It can be running its automatic cleansing cycle. This periodically heats a cylinder’s stored water throughout to help control Legionella bacteria. Other heating requests can also target 100%. See Why does your tank heat to full every two weeks? for the cleansing explanation.

Does a percentage show how full the tank is?

No. The tank remains physically full of water. The percentage shows how much usable hot water is ready.
