Mixergy with Third-Party Solar Diverters FAQ

A simple guide for existing Mixergy users explaining how their tank works with a third party solar diverter.

Can my existing Mixergy X tank work with a third party solar diverter?

Yes. Your Mixergy tank can work with any third party PV diverter as long as the Mixergy PV Switch is installed.

If your installer supplied one, you are ready to connect. If not, the PV Switch can be added later without changing your tank.

Compatible diverters include:

  • Solar iBoost+
  • Solic 200
  • MyEnergi Eddi
  • and most other variable power diverters.

What does the PV Switch actually do?

The PV Switch allows your Mixergy immersion to accept a variable power signal from the diverter.

This means your tank can store surplus solar energy by heating from the top down, which gives you usable hot water earlier in the day.

Your Mixergy tank remains smart, but the diverter becomes the device deciding how much solar energy is sent to the immersion.

Will I lose any Mixergy smart features once a diverter is connected?

No.  Your tank stays fully smart and continues to

  • Heat efficiently
  • Show accurate hot water levels
  • Follow your schedules
  • Provide Boost and app control

However, once a diverter is connected

  • The diverter controls how much solar energy flows to the tank
  • Mixergy cannot stop diversion at a specific level such as 40 or 50 percent
  • The tank becomes a passive recipient of whatever excess solar your diverter sends

If you want Mixergy to control solar directly, for example stopping diversion at a specific level, you would need the Mixergy Embedded Solar Diverter model instead.

Why can’t I set a target temperature for solar in the Mixergy app?

When solar is sent through a third party diverter, the immersion is powered outside the Mixergy controls.

This means the diverter, not the Mixergy app, determines how long the immersion receives power.

During diversion, the tank relies on the immersion’s manual high limit thermostat, not the digital target temperature in the app.

To avoid overheating on sunny days, we recommend turning the high limit stat down one notch from 5 to 4.

This keeps the system safe during long solar charging periods.

What is the main benefit of using my Mixergy tank with a third party diverter?

Your Mixergy tank can partially heat just enough hot water for your morning routine.

This leaves the maximum cold volume available for free solar heating during the day.

In effect, your Mixergy tank becomes a low cost solar battery, helping you make better use of your PV system than a traditional cylinder could.
