A guide to online and offline commissioning.
This guide outlines the commissioning process for the Mixergy cylinders, ensuring correct setup and optimal operation. Commissioning can be done online, through the Mixergy Enterprise App, and offline, using the Mixergy gauge.
Offline commissioning
If an internet connection cannot be made to the cylinder at the time of commissioning, the Mixergy Gauge can be used to set the heat source and test the operation of the Mixergy cylinder.
See 'Introduction to the Gauge' for a walkthrough as part of the Mixergy Training with Roy Fugler series.
Commissioning procedure
Once the cylinder is filled with water, switch the Mixergy cylinder on. The On/Off and Wi-Fi LEDs will flash as the Mixergy controller searches for a Wi-Fi signal. When a signal is found, the bottom LED will illuminate and the Mixergy controller will begin a self-check. Once the self check has begun, the bottom four LEDs will illuminate. Once all the LEDs have illuminated, the heat source can be set.
Changing heat sources
All Mixergy cylinders are factory-set to electric heat source. In the case of a heat pump or indirect installation, the cylinder’s primary heat source must be changed.
- Press and hold the Boost UP and Boost DOWN buttons at the same time.
- The display will light white, confirming that you have entered heat source selection mode. Continue to hold and the display will change colours to represent a different heat source.
- Release the buttons once the display changes to the required heat source:
- BLUE → Direct (Electric)
- RED → Indirect
- GREEN → Heat Pump
- The display will flash in the selected color to confirm the new default heat source.
- Power cycle the cylinder (turn it off and on) for the change to take effect.
To check the operation, push the Boost Up button this will create a demand, and the Demand LED will illuminate green, and the primary heat source should be energised.
Online Commissioning
A step-by-step approach to commissioning a Mixergy cylinder using the Mixergy Installer Enterprise App. The Enterprise App provides technical guides, schematics, and ‘how-to’ videos. It also allows you to also remotely track and manage your Mixergy installs.
The Installer App is available to download via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
See 'Mixergy Enterprise Installer App Guide' for a walkthrough as part of the Mixergy Training with Roy Fugler series.
Create an account
Once you have downloaded the Mixergy Enterprise Installer App you will need to create an account.
All accounts will require a Portfolio ID - created and supplied by Mixergy. A portfolio ID is applied to a company and can be shared by multiple accounts. If you are working as a contractor, the Portfolio ID used must be for the House Builder or Housing Provider.
Register the cylinder
Open the App and tap the Add Tank button.
Then add the Mixdevice code. This is a 25-character identifier unique to each cylinder. You can do this manually or by scanning the QR code.
The MixDevice code is not the MX number displayed on the same label.
Cylinder status
Once registered, the app will display the status screen.
- Temperature of the hot water.
- Volume of hot water available.
- Heating status, indicating whether the cylinder is actively heating.
- Last data update, showing the most recent time the cylinder shared information.
Note: If the cylinder has just been installed, the temperature will initially be cold. If the cylinder has been in operation, the current temperature will be displayed.
Select the Heat Source
- Tap the Heat Source button and select the appropriate option:
- Electric (for direct cylinders only)
- Indirect (for NG boiler, LPG boiler, or oil boiler)
- Heat Pump
Important: If the cylinder is fitted with solar PV in addition to a boiler or heat pump, the heat source must be set to Indirect or Heat Pump for correct operation.
Test the Heat Source Using Boost
- Tap the Boost button and set a boost amount to test functionality:
- Electric: Powers the immersion heater.
- Indirect: Activates the two-port valve, which then signals the boiler to fire.
- Heat Pump: Powers the heat pump kit pump and sends a demand signal to the heat pump.
Note: Lowering the boost amount will turn off the demand. For a boiler or heat pump, there will be a delay due to the overrun cycle.
Configure Additional Settings
- Tap the following buttons in sequence:
- Ignore Timer Control Cable – This must be selected for the Mixergy Customer App to function correctly.
- Target Temperature – Set the desired temperature according to the heat source. Note: If the cylinder is connected to a heat pump with a maximum output of 55°C, do not set the target temperature to 60°C, as this will be unachievable.
- Location Address – Add the address where the cylinder is installed. This is useful for future servicing.
Final Commissioning Checks
- Tap the Commissioning Checks button and complete all required checks.
- Once all checkboxes have been ticked, tap Finish Commissioning to complete the process.
