Use voice controls
Ask Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant about your hot water or ask for more.
You can use Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to ask how much hot water you have or request more. These voice assistants respond to spoken instructions through a compatible speaker or device.
You first need to link your Mixergy account to your chosen assistant. This lets it recognise and control your tank. Voice control is optional; you can still use the Mixergy app or the gauge on your tank.
Before you start
You will need:
- A Mixergy account with your tank added to it.
- The Mixergy app on your phone or tablet.
- An Amazon or Google device that is already set up and connected to the internet, and its companion app.
Link your tank to Amazon Alexa (or equivalent)
- Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone or tablet.
- Tap More, then Skills & Games. A skill adds a service, such as Mixergy, to Alexa.
- Search for Mixergy, select its skill and choose the option to enable it.
- When asked to link your account, sign in with your Mixergy login details. Use the account in which you can see your tank, rather than your Amazon login.
- Follow the prompts to finish linking and let Alexa find your tank. Open Devices in the Alexa app to see whether it has appeared.
- Try saying: “Alexa, what is the hot water level in the Mixergy tank?”
If Alexa gives you a percentage, the link is working. You can then try the commands below.
Link your tank to Google
- Open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
- Tap Add (+), then Device. Choose Add a different way and search for Mixergy. Select the Mixergy service and choose Link app. In versions that show Link app or service under Add, use that option, then Works with Google, and search for Mixergy.
- Sign in with the Mixergy account in which you can see your tank, and allow the accounts to link.
- Follow the prompts to add the tank to your home and a room.
- Find the tank under Home, then All devices. Touch and hold its tile, tap Settings, then Name. Give it a simple name, such as “Hot water tank”, and tap Save.
- Try saying: “OK Google, how full is Hot water tank?” Replace “Hot water tank” with the name you chose.
If Google gives you a percentage, the link is working. If Mixergy is not listed in either assistant’s app, use the Mixergy app or gauge and ask Mixergy Support for help.
Ask how much hot water is ready
- Alexa: “Alexa, what is the hot water level in the Mixergy tank?”
- Google: “OK Google, how full is [device name]?”
For Google commands, replace [device name] with the tank’s name in Google Home. Do not say the words “device name”.
The percentage describes the amount of hot water ready to use, not its temperature. For example, 50% means about half of the tank’s usable hot water capacity is ready. That may be all you asked for and enough for your household.
Ask for more hot water
- Alexa: “Alexa, boost Mixergy tank charge to 50%.”
- Google: “OK Google, fill [device name] to 50%.”
Both examples request a total hot water level of 50%. They do not request an extra 50%. Choose a percentage that suits what you need; 50% is just an example.
“Charge” and “fill” are the assistants’ terms for the amount of hot water. These commands ask the tank to heat water, not to add water to it.
A spoken confirmation means the request has been accepted. It does not mean the extra hot water is ready yet. Allow time for heating, then ask for the hot-water level again.
Check or stop a Boost with Alexa
- To ask whether a Boost is on: “Alexa, is Mixergy tank Boost on?”
- To stop it: “Alexa, turn off Mixergy Boost.”
This stops the Boost request. It does not turn off power to your tank.
If voice control does not work
Start with what happened, then follow the matching advice.
The assistant does not recognise the tank or command
Repeat one of the example commands above. For Google, use the tank name shown in Google Home under Home > All devices. For Alexa, try the example that says “Mixergy tank”.
If the tank is missing from the assistant’s app, return to the linking steps above. Use the same Mixergy account that shows your tank in the Mixergy app.
The assistant says the tank is unavailable
Open the Mixergy app and select your tank. If it shows offline, the tank’s internet connection needs attention before voice control can work.
If the tank is online and the app works, the issue is more likely to be the voice service or its account link. Close and reopen the Alexa or Google Home app, then try again. If it still fails, contact Mixergy Support with the command you used and the exact reply.
The assistant accepts the request, but you still need more hot water
Allow time for the water to heat. Ask for the hot-water level again to see whether it has increased. If it has not, open the Mixergy app, select your tank and see whether it shows a heating request or an error. Tell Mixergy Support what the app shows if you need help.

Common questions
Do I need voice control to use my tank?
No. It is an optional way to control your tank. You can continue using the Mixergy app or the gauge on the tank.
Will voice control work if my tank is offline?
No. Voice control needs an internet connection. You can use the gauge on the tank while it is offline. See Use your tank without the app for help using its buttons and lights.
Does “fill to 50%” mean half my tank is empty?
No. It refers to how much of the water is hot and ready to use. Asking for 50% sets the requested hot-water amount to about half the usable capacity. You do not need to request 100% if a smaller amount meets your needs.
Can anyone in my home request a Boost by voice?
Someone who can use the linked speaker may be able to ask for more hot water. Agree with your household how you want to use it, as extra heating uses energy. If you rent, ask your housing provider if you are unsure whether you can link the tank.
Can I use voice control with more than one tank?
Give each tank a different, easy-to-say name. Google commands use that device name. Alexa also supports “Alexa, what is the hot water level in my [device name]?” If you are unsure which tank a heating command will affect, select the tank in the Mixergy app instead.
