Connect a Version 2 controller to Wi-Fi (video)

Connect a Version 2 controller to the home Wi-Fi with its dongle and the Mixergy app.

This guide shows you how to connect a Mixergy cylinder with a Version 2 controller to the internet using its Wi-Fi dongle. You can recognise a Version 2 controller by its metal cover, and this is a quick, cable-free set-up for homes with strong Wi-Fi coverage.

SAFETY

Before you open the controller cover or make any connection, isolate all electrical supplies to the cylinder. The controller label warns of a dual supply, so make sure both supplies are isolated, and follow safe isolation procedure as set out in the installation manual.

The Wi-Fi dongle

The controller’s Wi-Fi dongle connects to the customer’s 2.4 GHz home Wi-Fi, so check the router broadcasts on the 2.4 GHz band.

Step 1. Insert the dongle

  1. Push the Wi-Fi dongle into a USB port on the base of the controller.
  2. If you need a stronger signal, use the USB extension lead. Plug the lead into the base of the controller and fit the dongle on the other end, closer to the router.

Step 2. Power on

  1. With the dongle in place, switch the power back on.
  • Have the customer’s Wi-Fi password ready.
  • Check the signal strength at the cylinder.

Step 3. Set up in the Mixergy app

  1. Open the Mixergy app.
  2. Tap Add Tank.
  3. Scan the QR code on the front of the controller casing.
  4. Select the heat source.
  5. Add the tank address.
  6. Add the time zone, then tap Next.
  7. Agree to join the Mixergy network.
  8. Choose the 2.4 GHz home network and enter its password.
  9. Tap Connect.

You will see a success message once the cylinder is connected.

Installer notes
  • Make sure the router broadcasts on 2.4 GHz.
  • Avoid metal enclosures around the cylinder.
  • Check the signal strength before commissioning.
  • Keep the Wi-Fi password ready.
  • If the signal is weak, consider an Ethernet connection instead.
