Connect a Version 1 controller by Ethernet (video)

Wire a Version 1 controller straight to the router for the most stable connection.

This guide shows you how to connect a Mixergy cylinder with a Version 1 controller straight to the home network with an Ethernet cable. You can recognise a Version 1 controller by its plastic cover, and a direct Ethernet connection is the most stable way to get it online.

SAFETY

Before you open the controller cover or make any connection, switch off all electrical supplies to the cylinder and follow safe isolation procedure, as set out in the installation manual.

Step 1. Open up

  1. Unscrew and remove the controller cover.
  2. Unplug the blue Ethernet cable inside the controller.

Step 2. Test the cable

  1. Check the CAT5e or CAT6 cable with a network tester.
  2. Pins 1 to 8 should light in order at both ends.

Step 3. Connect

  1. Plug the cable into the controller’s Ethernet port.
  2. Route the cable neatly.
  3. Connect the other end to an active LAN port on the router or a network switch, directly or through a wall plate.

Step 4. Power up

  1. Refit the controller cover.
  2. Switch the power back on.
Check it’s connected
  • The network light on the gauge shows blue.
  • If the customer has set up the Mixergy app, it shows the cylinder as online.
Good practice
  • Use CAT6 for long cable runs.
  • Avoid tight bends and strain on the cable.
  • Make sure the router’s LAN port is active.
